Goals
Our goal in our Pre-K Program is to provide a well-rounded environment that will help children grow and mature and master the skills needed for Kindergarten.
We aim to prepare your child to attend the Los Altos School District. Los Altos School District schools have consistently ranked at or near the top of all schools in the state. We receive outstanding feedback from Kindergarten teachers in both the Los Altos and Mountain View School Districts as well as highly regarded private schools on the level of preparedness of Stepping Stones graduates.
We utilize a modified Montessori program, balancing the creative side of traditional teaching methods with the structure of the Montessori Method.
Curriculum
- Cognitive - Recognize A-Z, Upper and Lower Case, Letter Sounds, Tracing Textured Letters, Counting, Number Recognition, Number to Object Correspondence, Recognize Shapes and Colors, Rhyming, Sequencing, Following and copying simple patterns, Opposites, Spatial Concepts: Up, Down, Near, Far, Classification, Problem Solving, Literature / Pre-Reading, Early Math, Address and Phone Number Recognition, Name Recognition and Printing of their First Name, Safety in School / Home / Street, Pouring, Wiping, Mixing, Organizing, Following Directions.
- Creative Art - Teachers engage the children with a wide variety of methods of artistic expression including: Painting, Drawing, Collages, Print Art, Gluing, Sculptures, Seasonal and Holiday Art, Structured and Free Art.
- Fine Motor - Children develop fine motor skills through Cutting, Gluing, Tracing, Drawing Shapes, Printing Names, Letters, Words, Numbers, Play dough, Manipulatives, Puzzles, and Board Games.
- Circle Time - Children continue development of social skills through Music, Movement, Finger Plays, Games, Verbalizing Experiences, Calendar, Weather, Birthdays, Stories, and Poetry.
