Goals
Our goals in the Transition group are to refine social skills, enhance self-esteem and help problem solve through verbalization skills. Strengthen fine motor skills through repeated utilization of manipulatives, art media, scissors and pencils. Instill creative drives and reinforce basic concepts.
We utilize a modified Montessori program, balancing the creative side of traditional teaching methods with the structure of the Montessori Method.
Our 2yr old Toddler group and our 3yr old Transition group share a single classroom. However, the groups have separate curriculum, circle time, and art projects.
Children must be toilet trained to be in the Transition group.
Curriculum
- Cognitive - Extensive reinforcement of basic concepts: Alphabet / Letter Sounds, Number Recognition, Counting, Shapes, Colors, Name Recognition, Rhyming, Opposites, Spatial Concepts, Simple Sequencing, Visual Discrimination, Seasonal Concepts, Science Projects, Literature, Simple Problem Solving.
- Creative Art - Teachers engage the children with a wide variety of methods of artistic expression including: Painting, Printing, Collages, Dot Art, Cutting, Gluing, Sculptures, Drawing, Seasonal and Holiday Art. We use both Structured and Free Art.
- Fine Motor - Extensive use of scissors in line, shape, and zigzag cutting, printing First names and letters with beginner’s pencils. Drawing with markers and crayons, pouring, wiping, stacking, organizing books and toys (practical skills), and tactile letters.
- Circle Time - Children continue development of social skills through Music, Movement, Finger Plays, Games, Verbalizing Experiences, Calendar, Weather, and Birthday Celebrations.
- Free Play - Children are given an opportunity to make choices ranging from ever changing manipulatives, to dramatic play, free drawing, and play dough.
